The School of Writing at Spalding University announces that Jody Lisberger, MFA, Ph.D., will retire from the teaching faculty of our low-residency MFA program effective July 1, 2020. Jody began teaching for Spalding in 2006.
Jody will be missed by students and colleagues alike. Her former student Mary Lou Northern says, “In the first lecture I attended at Spalding, Jody spoke of agency and the writer. I had no idea what she meant, but I sensed she would push me to become a better writer. My mentor, my friend, my sister writer–love you, Jody.”
Please join us in thanking Jody for many years of teaching service. We wish her and her family the best of luck and look forward to reading more of her beautiful writing.
Jody Lisberger’s stories and creative nonfiction have appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, Fugue, Confrontation, Timberline Review, Six Hens, and others, and won prizes at Quarterly West and American Literary Review. Her 2008 story collection Remember Love was nominated for a National Book Award. She is currently finishing a novel called You Don’t Know the Half of It and a story collection called House Pets and Other People. She lives in Rhode Island, where she is an Associate Professor in Gender and Women’s Studies at the University of Rhode Island. She has a Ph.D. in English and an MFA in Writing from Vermont College.
