Beginning in September, the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing will offer instruction on the business of writing twice a year through a new virtual curriculum event “Spalding’s Business of Writing Seminars.”
The dates for the first two of these events are Saturday, September 10, 2022, and Saturday, March 25, 2023. We plan to continue these events twice a year as curriculum sessions for our current students. The seminars will also be available to alums for a small fee.
Seeking presenters. We are inviting alumni and faculty to submit proposals for 50-minute presentations around the Business of Writing. We will select up to four of these to be included in each Business of Writing event. The proposals can be for a single presenter, a joint presentation by 2 presenters, or a panel of 3-4 presenters. The honorarium for presenting a session at this virtual event will be $200 for a single presenter or $300 divided among multiple presenters.
Topics for these seminars include
1. sessions on publishing and editing (such as pitching, care and tending, social media, building a platform, revision, small magazines and presses, etc.)
2. and sessions on ways to earn money from our writing (such as freelancing, consulting, speechwriting, blog writing, reviewing, writing for magazines, etc.)
Seeking suggestions. Even if you do not choose to submit a proposal, we’d like your suggestions for seminar topics that you think will benefit our current students. Or maybe you know an agent or editor, who might be available to speak to our students.

The deadline to submit the survey is end of day, Sunday, April 17.
